The Role

What is a GTM engineer?

A GTM engineer builds and runs the systems behind a company's growth: lead intelligence, outbound and enrichment pipelines, signal scoring, CRM hygiene. Where a salesperson works the pipeline, a GTM engineer builds the machine that fills it.

Why the role emerged

Go-to-market used to scale with headcount: more pipeline meant more SDRs. AI broke that equation. One person who can wire together enrichment data, intent signals, AI-written personalisation and CRM automation now produces the raw pipeline output of a small team, and does it around the clock. The bottleneck moved from effort to engineering, and a new role grew around it.

What a GTM engineer actually builds

GTM engineer vs SDR vs marketer

An SDR works leads. A marketer generates demand. A GTM engineer builds the infrastructure both of them stand on. The confusion happens because the output looks similar (meetings booked, pipeline created), but the leverage is different: an SDR's output stops when they log off, a GTM engineer's systems keep producing.

Hire one, or embed one?

GTM engineering suffers the same vetting problem as every AI-era role: it's too new for job specs and CVs to mean much, and the hiring cycle costs months you probably want to spend building pipeline instead. That's why the embedded model fits this role particularly well: a vetted GTM engineer inside your team in days, the machine's value agreed in writing in week one, and month one fully refundable if it doesn't clear.

Want the machine without the hiring cycle?

We embed vetted GTM engineers inside founder-led businesses. Two new embeds a month.
